The 2194 Flower Ring is a bitless style bridle that allows individual adjustment of pressure on the horse’s nose and slight leverage on the poll via multiple rings and strap options. The softly-padded noseband and adjustable size via chin-strap make it a versatile alternative to traditional bits.

Description

2194 Sun Wheel

A Sun Wheel is a bitless bridle that can be individually adjusted to meet the horse’s needs through its versatile adjustment options. The reins can be attached to various small rings on the Sun Wheel, allowing for precise adjustments of the pressure on the horse’s nose, which can be made sharper or milder.

The noseband is softly padded and can be adjusted tighter or looser using the bridle hooks. The size of the Sun Wheel can also be adjusted via the chin strap.

Bitless and other bridles should always correspond to the training level of both horse and rider. We recommend bitless bridles only to riders who have mastered an independent seat, separate from the reins. Legally, bitless bridles carry a liability risk as the ability to influence the horse is less than with a bridle that uses a bit.

Advantages at a Glance

Effect

  • Pressure on the horse’s nose, with slight leverage on the poll depending on the adjustment

For Which Horse is This Bridle Particularly Suitable?

  • Well-trained horses ridden by riders who have an independent seat

Note on Proper Use

Every bridle can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. An incorrect size can also be painful for the horse. Feel free to contact us with questions about size and adjustment, or read here  for more information on choosing the right size and proper adjustment in the horse’s mouth.

Size Guide

Place the bridle so the noseband sits one finger below the cheekbone — on the firm part of the nasal bone, never on soft cartilage. The metal flower ring must not touch the cheekbone — leave at least one finger of space so it cannot rub or press on bone.
The bridle should sit stable but not tight — the horse must be able to chew and breathe freely.
If the noseband slides down or the wheel tilts during riding, move the cheekpiece one position forward on the wheel and tighten the noseband one hole to stabilise the fit.

Usage

Every bridle (bitless or with bit) can cause discomfort if used harshly or in incorrect size.
This model is designed for horses that are already responsive and ridden by riders who have developed an independent seat and clear leg and rein aids. Because the pressure is applied on the nose and slightly on the poll, ensure the adjustments are correct and the bridle sits evenly. Transitioning to or using bitless requires careful monitoring of horse comfort and responsiveness.

Care

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.
