Usage

Use this hook as a replacement or upgrade for your bit’s chin chain setup. It ensures a reliable and safe connection between the bit and chin strap, maintaining proper fit and function. Ideal when your existing hook shows signs of wear, deformation, or sharp edges — especially critical for curb and leverage bit setups where stability and safety matter most. Install the 2299 Chin-Chain Hook by replacing the existing hook on your chin chain. Ensure the hook sits firmly, without twisting or sharp edges that contact the horse’s skin or jaw. After installation, check that the chain lies flat and properly engages with the bit’s lower branch, and that the horse shows no sign of pinching or discomfort during use.

Care

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.
