The 2429 Fine Line mullen mouth snaffle features a solid, un-broken mouthpiece that lies flat on the bars and tongue and follows the natural shape of the horse’s mouth. The loose rings at the ends allow independent movement and help distribute pressure evenly, making it especially suitable for sensitive horses or those that tend to chew on the bit.

Description

This mullen mouth bit has round rings at the ends of the mouthpiece, which can move freely through the mouthpiece. These rings provide some mobility and help distribute pressure evenly. The round rings allow the horse to move the bit independently in its mouth.

The mouthpiece of this mullen mouth bit follows the natural shape of the horse's mouth and lies flat on the tongue and bars of the horse. When the rider takes up the reins, the pressure is evenly distributed over the tongue and bars. The stainless steel mouthpiece is completely odorless and tasteless, making it suitable for sensitive horses.

Sizes:

  • Width: 11.5 / 12.5 / 13.5 cm
  • Ring Diameter: 70 mm
  • Thickness: 14 mm
Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
This Mullen mouth snaffle is designed for horses needing a stable, minimal-movement bit that rests steadily without twisting. It should be used with quiet, consistent hands, allowing the horse a secure feel and dependable connection while avoiding excessive movement or pressure.
