The 1301 Fine Line Flex Loose Ring Snaffle combines modern comfort technology with proven stability. The mouthpiece is made from flexible, food-grade PU (FDA-approved, free from plasticizers and safe for the horse), offering a warmer feel in the mouth even at lower temperatures. A concealed metal core ensures break-resistance and long-term security. The straight, anatomically shaped mouthpiece follows the natural line of the horse’s mouth, lying evenly across the tongue and bars while a slight tongue relief reduces pressure. The loose ring design allows free mobility and self-positioning of the bit, encouraging the horse to gently play with the mouthpiece and promoting acceptance — ideal for young, sensitive or metal-intolerant horses.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Mouthpiece: plastic, stainless steel; Ring: stainless steel

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse. This bit is designed to promote relaxation, soft contact and confidence, especially during the early stages of schooling or for horses that react defensively to metal. It allows the horse to explore and move the bit independently, supporting a supple jaw and encouraging correct chewing activity. As with any bit, it must be used with soft, educated hands.
