The 2264 Golden Wings Single-Jointed snaffle provides a classic jointed action coupled with the protective side plates of the Golden Wings design. The side plates prevent pinching, while the central joint encourages even pressure on the bars and some tongue relief. It is well suited for sensitive horses or those in training.

Description

2264 Golden Wings Bridle Single Jointed

The Golden Wings bits offer special protection for the corners of the mouth with their characteristic side bit plates, preventing the sensitive skin from being pinched by the sliding rings. The sliding rings ensure that the anatomical mouthpiece always returns to a neutral position and rests gently in the horse's mouth. At the same time, the bit plates provide lateral guidance and stabilize the position of the bit in the horse's mouth, offering slight lateral influence that can particularly support young horses in bending and turns.

The Golden Wings single jointed bridle primarily distributes pressure evenly over the bars, with the central joint relieving pressure on the tongue. The loose rings ensure the bit always finds a neutral position in the horse's mouth.

Advantages at a Glance

Mouth Friendliness and Comfort

  • The side plates of the bit prevent painful pinching of the corners of the mouth and ensure a stable position in the horse's mouth.
  • The bit plates allow for gentle lateral influence on the horse's mouth and can aid in bending and turning.

Pressure Distribution

  • The single jointed mouthpiece sits more steadily in the mouth than a double jointed mouthpiece and distributes the pressure over the bars of the horse's mouth, while the central joint reduces pressure on the tongue.
  • The loose rings allow the horse to move the bit independently in its mouth, bringing the mouthpiece to a neutral position.

SWEET Copper Mouthpiece

  • Better Acceptance: The sweet-tasting copper is particularly well accepted by horses and promotes chewing.
  • Composition: 90% copper, 7% iron, and aluminum, nickel-free, and especially robust.

For Which Horses is This Bit Especially Suitable?

  • For sensitive horses
  • For horses still in training
  • For horses that need their mouth activity lightly stimulated
  • For horses that require slight lateral stability

Note on Proper Use

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse. Please contact us with any questions about size and fastening, or read more about choosing the right size [here] and proper fitting.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.
