The 1302 Fine Line Flex Eggbutt Snaffle combines modern comfort technology with proven safety. The mouthpiece is made from flexible, food-grade PU (FDA-approved, plasticizer-free and completely harmless to the horse), offering a naturally warmer feel in the mouth even at lower temperatures. An integrated metal core provides internal stability and prevents breakage. The straight, anatomically shaped mouthpiece follows the natural line of the horse’s mouth, lying evenly across the tongue and bars while a slight tongue relief reduces pressure. The fixed eggbutt rings prevent pinching at the corners of the lips and ensure improved lateral stability, allowing the bit to sit more quietly in the horse’s mouth — ideal for young, sensitive or metal-intolerant horses.
Size Guide
Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.
The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.
For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.
When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)
The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.
Washing
Rinse the mouthpiece after each ride with lukewarm water to remove saliva and residue. Avoid harsh cleaning agents to protect the PU material and ensure long-term comfort for the horse.
Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.
Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.
Guidance
Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse. This bit is designed to encourage relaxation, steady contact and confidence — especially for horses that benefit from a quieter, more stable bit position. It supports soft jaw activity and gentle communication, making it suitable for early schooling and sensitive mouths. As with any bit, correct and considerate rein aids are essential.
