The 1310 Fine Line Flex Dressage Weymouth combines advanced comfort technology with the precision of classical double-bridle riding. The mouthpiece is made from flexible, food-grade PU (FDA-approved, plasticizer-free and completely safe), offering a naturally warmer, softer feel in the horse’s mouth. A reinforced metal core ensures maximum safety and prevents breakage. The straight, anatomically shaped mouthpiece follows the natural contour of the horse’s mouth and lies evenly on tongue and bars, with a light tongue relief to reduce pressure. As a traditional double-bridle curb, the Weymouth is always used together with a bradoon and a correctly fitted curb chain. It acts in three key areas: direct rein contact to the mouth, pressure between the curb bar and chin via the chain, and — through the leverage of the shanks — significant influence on the poll. Subtle aids can have a profound effect, which is why this bit is intended only for experienced riders with refined hand control.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Composition

Mouthpiece: plastic, stainless steel; Ring: stainless steel

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse. The Dressage Weymouth is designed to refine the communication between horse and rider at an advanced level. It is suitable only once the horse works confidently and sensitively on a snaffle. The rider must be capable of maintaining an independent hand and balanced seat.
