The 2238 Egg Butt Bit / Bradoon single jointed is designed for use with a curb bit, combining subtle guidance with precise rein contact. Its fixed olive-style cheek rings stabilize the bit and prevent lip pinching. The single joint distributes pressure over the bars while the central pivot relieves tongue pressure, and the stainless steel mouthpiece is taste-neutral and suited for sensitive horses.

Description

2296 Bradoon Stainless Steel Single-Jointed New

A bradoon is used in conjunction with a curb bit. The difference between a bradoon and a regular bit lies in its thickness and the size of the rings.

The continuous rings ensure that the mouthpiece always assumes a neutral position and rests gently in the horse's mouth. The sides are designed to leave about one centimeter of space from the corner of the mouth. The horse can move the bit independently with its tongue.

The single-jointed mouthpiece lies more quietly in the mouth than a double-jointed mouthpiece and distributes pressure over the bars of the horse’s mouth, with the central joint reducing pressure on the tongue. The loose rings allow the bit to always find a neutral position in the horse’s mouth.

The neutral Stainless Steel is completely tasteless and is especially suitable for sensitive horses.

Advantages at a Glance:

  • Effectiveness:
    • Neutral position in the horse's mouth
    • Pressure on the bars of the horse’s mouth, relief for the tongue
  • Stainless Steel Mouthpiece:
    • Made from stainless steel
    • Stainless steel is robust, tasteless, and odorless

Suitable For:

  • Horses that already have experience with a curb bit
  • This bit can also be used for ponies as a snaffle bit due to its size

Note on Proper Use:

Every bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. An incorrect size can also be painful for the horse. Please feel free to contact us with questions about size and fitting, or read here for more information on choosing the right size and proper fitting in the horse’s mouth.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse. Use in combination with a curb in a double bridle configuration, or alone in horses needing stable, gentle guidance.
