With one side rounded for a softer effect and the other more angular for stronger communication, it adapts to varying training demands. The D-rings provide lateral stability and precise guidance while calming the bit’s presence in the horse’s mouth.

2253 Large D-ring snaffle 2in1 single jointed

The 2in1 bits from Stübben SteelTEC offer two levels of action in one bit. This is made possible by two differently processed sides, a rounded side and a more angular side for more punctual pressure. The 2in1 bits therefore offer a flexible solution for different training requirements.

A simple sign helps to keep track: If a + can be seen on the outside left of the bit on the mounting side, the more effective side is fitted. If this sign is missing, the softer side is fitted.

The large D-ring snaffle 2in1 single jointed mainly acts evenly on the bars, the joint in the centre relieves the tongue. The D-ring provides better lateral stabilisation and guidance and creates calm and stability in the horse's mouth. The rein action is slightly softened by the large D-rings. This side piece should lie lightly on the side.

Buckling options and pressure distribution

Gentle action: If the round side of the bit is buckled towards the horse's tongue, the bit is used as a normal water snaffle. This setting is ideal for general daily use.
Selective action: If the more angular side of the bit is buckled towards the horse's tongue, a more targeted, selective action is achieved. This setting enables more precise communication with the horse and can be helpful in special training situations.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.
