The 2258 Danish Guard is designed to enhance lateral guidance with its large fixed rings, preventing the bit from being pulled through the mouth. It is especially suited for horses that tend to chew on standard bits. The mouthpiece of this curb bit follows the natural shape of the horse’s mouth and applies even pressure on the horse's tongue and bars. Depending on the fitting, the effect on the poll can be adjusted.
Description
2258 Danish Guard Curb Bit The Danish Guard improves the lateral guidance of the horse through its large, fixed rings. It is ideally suited for horses that chew a lot on regular bits, as its small ring for the cheek piece makes it very stable in the mouth. Its improved lateral guidance supports the horse in bending and turning. The mouthpiece of this curb bit follows the natural shape of the horse’s mouth and applies even pressure on the horse's tongue and bars. Depending on the fitting, the effect on the poll can be adjusted.Advantages at a Glance:Fitting Options and Effectiveness:Even effect on the bars and tongueMinimal leverage due to the fixed cheek pieceStainless Steel Mouthpiece:Made of stainless steelStainless steel is robust, tasteless, and odorlessSWEET Copper Mouthpiece:Better acceptance: The sweet-tasting copper is particularly well accepted by horses and promotes salivation.90% copper, 7% iron, and aluminum; nickel-free and exceptionally durableSuitable For:Horses that chew excessively on regular bitsHorses that need lateral stabilityHorses that tend to lift their head easilyNote on Proper Use:Every bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly, especially bits with leverage. An incorrect size can also be painful for the horse. Size Guide
Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.
The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.
For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.
When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)
The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions
Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.
Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.
Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.
Guidance
Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse. Because this bit does not have joints, rein aids are transmitted directly—therefore, it should only be used by riders with quiet, balanced hands.
