The 2280 3-Ring Gag Double Broken is frequently used in show jumping and eventing for its adjustable leverage and refined control. Its continuous rings allow the anatomical mouthpiece to always assume a neutral, gentle position in the horse’s mouth. The double-jointed mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly over the tongue and bars while the gag configuration offers variable effects depending on rein placement.

Benefits of SWEET Copper Link:• Better acceptance• Pleasant sweet taste of the middle piece • Encourages chewing and salivation• Solid copper composition (90% Copper, 7% Iron and Aluminum, no Nickel) with very high strength • Horses feel good with SWEET Copper

Benefit of the double jointed 3-ring gag.• No painful pressure on the gums• Even and mouth-friendly distribution of pressure from the Reins on tongue and bars.• Better acceptance by the horse• No nutcracker effect• Facilitates communication between horse and rider

Benefits of the 3-ring gag:• Fastening the Reins to the lower ring will increase the impact on the poll.• The 3-gag has proven its value in show jumping, since the unique rings enable a particularly good steering of the horse. This is particularly helpful in horses going against the rider’s hand

Stübben Steeltec quality:• No rough edges that could hurt the horse's mouth• Long durability due to selected materials• A special processing technology ensures that bit holes and link pieces remain intact for longer
Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
Because this is a gag (lever) bit, rein placement dramatically influences its effect. Attaching reins to the upper small ring produces a mild leverage, primarily affecting the mouth and poll gently. Attaching reins to the lower rings increases leverage and offers stronger influence, including more pressure on the poll.
Use it only with experienced, soft hands and avoid overuse of strong rein aids. Proper fit and alignment are especially critical so no ring segment digs into sensitive tissues.
