The 2432 Gag Bit is designed for elevated control using an elevator bridle system: the cheekpieces are routed through the rings of the bit so that when the reins are taken up, the poll pressure increases and the mouthpiece tilts, resulting in stronger influence on the bars and tongue. The single-jointed stainless steel mouthpiece lies still and distributes pressure primarily over the bars with relief for the tongue.

Description

2432 Elevator Bridle Stainless Steel Single Jointed

An elevator bridle is used with elevator cheek pieces, which pass through the rings of the bit and have a ring at the bottom. Elevator bridles can be used with one or two reins. When the reins are taken up, the pressure on the poll is increased, causing the bit to tilt in the mouth and be pulled upwards. This also increases the pressure on the horse's tongue and bars. As the name suggests, an elevator bridle is designed to help elevate the horse’s head. The elevator bridle provides a high level of control and is suitable only for experienced riders!

The olive headpiece prevents the corners of the mouth from being pinched in the rings. The horse cannot lift the bit with its tongue, so the mouthpiece lies more quietly in the mouth and is slightly more stabilized laterally. Since the ring does not rotate, it results in a minimally more direct effect with a light influence on the poll. However, the difference compared to a Waterford bridle is not noticeable for the horse or most riders.

The single-jointed mouthpiece lies more quietly in the mouth than a double-jointed mouthpiece and distributes pressure over the horse's bars; the middle joint reduces pressure on the tongue. The olive headpiece provides slight lateral stabilization and guidance, creating calmness and stability in the horse's mouth.

Advantages at a Glance:

  • Effectiveness:
    • Quiet positioning in the horse’s mouth
    • Effect on the horse’s bars, relief of the tongue
    • Use only with elevator cheek pieces: when the reins are taken up, pressure on the poll, tongue, and bars is increased
  • Stainless Steel Mouthpiece:
    • Made of stainless steel
    • Stainless steel is robust, tasteless, and odorless

Suitable For:

  • Horses that pull strongly downward
  • Horses that need better elevation
  • Horses that require slight lateral stability

Note on Proper Use:

The elevator bridle provides a high level of control and is suitable only for experienced riders! Every bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. An incorrect size can also be painful for the horse. Please feel free to contact us with questions about size and fitting, or read here  for more information on choosing the right size and proper fitting in the horse’s mouth.

  • Sizes:
    • Size: 12.5 / 13.5 cm
    • Ring Diameter: 80 mm
    • Thickness: 16 mm
Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
This gag bit is for experienced riders only — with the elevator bridle set-up, rein pressure significantly increases influence on the poll, tongue and bars. Use during controlled sessions, ensure correct fitting and soft, consistent hands to avoid discomfort.
