The 2439 Baucher Bit Fine Line features a solid 14 mm stainless steel bar mouthpiece, optimized for horses with flat palates or thick tongues. The fixed Baucher side cheeks secure the bit in a stable position and provide subtle guidance without leverage, making it ideal for sensitive horses needing quiet, consistent contact.

Description

2439 Baucher Bit Fine Line Stainless Steel

The Baucher bit is known for its stable position in the horse's mouth. The side cheeks ensure that the bit sits steadily and evenly, which leads to a consistent connection between the rider’s hand and the horse. When the reins are taken up, the Baucher bit tilts and acts towards the corners of the mouth, which can help improve the horse's collection.

The mouthpiece of this bit follows the natural shape of the horse's mouth and lies flat on the tongue and bars. When the rider takes up the reins, the pressure is evenly distributed across the tongue and bars. The Stainless Steel mouthpiece is completely odorless and tasteless, making it suitable for sensitive horses.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
The Fine Line Baucher Bit is designed for precision and subtle contact. Because of the fixed side cheeks and solid bar mouthpiece, the rider must maintain soft, steady hands and ensure the horse accepts the bit calmly. This bit works especially well for sensitive horses, those that lean on the bit, or horses with anatomical requirements (flat palate/thick tongue).
