The 2458 Danish Guard double broken combines fixed, D-ring style cheekpieces with a double-broken mouthpiece featuring a Sweet Copper link. The stainless-steel construction ensures neutral taste and odor; the copper centre piece enhances acceptance, encourages salivation and chewing. The D-ring form gives lateral stability and prevents the bit from being pulled through the mouth. Designed for riders who need refined control with a bit that demands balanced hands.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
This Danish Guard is designed for refined control rather than brute force. The fixed D-rings and double-jointed mouthpiece demand quiet, consistent hands and correct sizing. Because the bit cannot move laterally around the rings (“bit cannot be moved sideways” per manufacturer), incorrect use or fit can increase pressure at unwanted points. Use it when you need more guidance but still expect sensitivity and balanced communication from your horse.
