The 2634 Egg Butt Bit double broken offers a double-jointed mouthpiece made from Sweet Copper that distributes pressure evenly over the tongue and bars. With its fixed “egg-butt” rings placed ~1 cm closer to the mouth corners than loose-ring models, it prevents lip-pinch and stabilises the bit laterally, giving the horse a calmer contact in the mouth.

Description

2634 Eggbutt SnaffleDouble Jointed

The Eggbutt snaffle is characterized by a fixed ring. The sides should lie about one centimeter closer to the corners of the mouth compared to a loose ring snaffle. The Eggbutt prevents the corners of the mouth from being pinched by the rings. The horse cannot lift the bit with its tongue, so the mouthpiece stays calmer in the mouth and is somewhat more stabilized laterally. Since the ring does not rotate, there is a minimally more direct action with a slight effect on the poll. However, the difference from a loose ring snaffle is hardly noticeable for the horse or most riders. The double-jointed mouthpiece distributes the pressure evenly over the tongue and bars. The Eggbutt provides slight lateral stabilization and guidance, creating calmness and stability in the horse’s mouth. The sweet-tasting SWEET Copper is particularly well accepted by horses and promotes chewing.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
This Egg Butt Bit is designed for horses that need a steady, stable connection without excessive lateral movement of the bit. Because the rings do not rotate and the mouthpiece is double-jointed with elevated directness, it is important to use it with quiet, consistent hands. Ensure fit is correct and the horse is comfortable — used properly, it promotes calmness and acceptance.
