The 2636 Egg Butt single jointed features fixed egg-butt rings which sit approximately one centimetre closer to the corners of the horse’s mouth than loose rings. This design prevents lip pinching and stabilises the bit laterally. Its single-jointed mouthpiece lies quietly in the mouth and distributes pressure primarily over the bars, while the joint reduces direct tongue contact. The sweet-tasting Sweet Copper mouthpiece link is especially well received by horses.

Description

2636 Eggbutt Snaffle Single Jointed

The Eggbutt snaffle is characterized by a fixed ring. The sides should lie about one centimeter closer to the corners of the mouth compared to a loose ring snaffle. The Eggbutt prevents the corners of the mouth from being pinched by the rings. The horse cannot lift the bit with its tongue, so the mouthpiece stays calmer in the mouth and is somewhat more stabilized laterally. Since the ring does not rotate, there is a minimally more direct action with a slight effect on the poll. However, the difference from a loose ring snaffle is hardly noticeable for the horse or most riders. The single-jointed mouthpiece lies more quietly in the mouth than a double-jointed mouthpiece and distributes the pressure over the bars of the horse, with the central joint reducing pressure on the tongue. The Eggbutt provides slight lateral stabilization and guidance, creating calmness and stability in the horse’s mouth. The sweet-tasting SWEET Copper is particularly well accepted by horses and promotes chewing.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
This Egg Butt Bit is particularly suited for horses that are sensitive in the mouth or still in training and benefit from minimal lateral movement of the bit. The fixed ring design gives improved stability, so the rider should apply soft, consistent hands and ensure the bit remains well-aligned to avoid discomfort.
