The sweet-tasting Sweet Copper centre link enhances acceptance and salivation.

Description

2287 Liverpool Bit Sweet Copper

The Liverpool bit is a classic driving bit that offers various fitting options, allowing for individual pressure distribution and different effects on the horse’s poll and mouth. The mouthpiece of this curb bit follows the natural shape of the horse’s mouth and provides greater tongue freedom. It exerts more pressure on the horse's bars.

The sweet-tasting SWEET Copper is particularly well accepted by horses and has a bit-enhancing effect.

Advantages at a Glance:

  • Fitting Options and Effectiveness:
    1. Effect on the bars, poll, and tongue
    2. Various fitting options for the reins to adjust the pressure of the bit on the horse's mouth and poll as needed
    3. Option 1: Attach the bridle to the upper small ring and the reins to the large ring - light lever action on the poll.
    4. Option 2: Attach the bridle to the upper small ring and the reins to the first small lower ring - effect with slight leverage on the mouth and poll.
    5. Option 3: Attach the bridle to the upper small ring and the reins to the second small lower ring - effect with greater leverage on the mouth and poll.

WARNING: Lever bits should only be used by experienced riders/drivers.

  • SWEET Copper Mouthpiece:
    • Better Acceptance: The sweet-tasting copper is particularly well accepted by horses and has a bit-enhancing effect.
    • 90% Copper, 7% Iron, and Aluminum, nickel-free and particularly robust

Suitable For:

  • Horses that strongly pull forward
  • Horses that need to elevate their head

Note on Proper Use:

Every bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly, especially bits with leverage. An incorrect size can also be painful for the horse. Please feel free to contact us with questions about size and fitting, or read here for more information on choosing the right size and proper fitting in the horse’s mouth.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Width: 12.5 cm - Thickness: 14 mm - Offset: 7 cm
Width: 13.5 / 14.5 / 15.5 cm - Thickness: 16 mm - Offset: 9 cm

Composition

Mouthpiece: sweet copper - 90% copper, 7% zinc, 4% iron and aluminum hardened; Ring: stainless steel

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
This Liverpool Driving Bit is designed for driving use when precise control, adjustability and clear rein feedback are required. Because of the multiple slots and leverage potential, correct fitting, curb chain adjustment and smooth, consistent rein aids are essential. It is especially useful for strong-pulling horses or those that need subtle elevation of poll contact and bar pressure. Use only with experience and care.
