The 2126 Bucephalus bit is a single-jointed loose ring snaffle with a uniquely soft action, incorporating elastic rubbers between the bit and the reins. This flexible connection allows the horse to approach contact more gently, stabilizing tempo and encouraging relaxation. It effectively distributes pressure onto the bars while the central joint alleviates tongue pressure.

Description
Bucephalus: The "bucephalus pro horse bit" is a soft action loose ring snaffle bit. The reins are attached to the bit with two strong rubber bands within the O-rings. This creates a flexible connection between the riders hand to the horses mouth thus encouraging the connection from the hind leg into the rein. The pressure transmitted through the horses mouth is reduced thereby promoting forward motion, rhythm and a softer contact. This naturally encourages elasticity in the horses movement and willingness in the collection.
Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

The elastic rubbers are removable and can be replaced with different grades/materials (EPDM or silicone), allowing adjustment of the bit’s feel and connection hardness. Because of the elasticity, the Bucephalus bit offers some forgiveness to sharper rein aids, which can help in developing a softer, more consistent contact. Ensure the elastic rubbers are mounted symmetrically to avoid twisting or tilting of the bit. Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
