The 2241 Easy Control Pelham double broken is a versatile training bit that blends snaffle-like flexibility with leverage control when needed. Under normal contact it behaves like a regular double-jointed snaffle; when the horse or rider applies bilateral pressure, it converts into a bar-style bit with poll, chin and mouth influence. This dual-effect design supports refined communication and encourages self-obedience.

Benefits of an EZ-Control Pelham Bit:• More effective impact – rigid effect only in direction of pull with flexibility of external bit parts • More effective and mouth-friendly aids • Enables easier communication between horse and rider • Especially effective in horses that tend to pull • EZ-Control Pelhams have proven their worth in jumping where it is often difficult to slow the horse down before the next jump.• If the bit is too harsh, the horses get too cautious and fail to speed up. This will not happen with the EZ-Control Pelham.• If required, the EZ-Control Pelham has a strong leverage effect on the horse. • As soon as the horse accepts the rein aids, the bit has a soft and comfortable action on tongue and bars.• The EZ-Control Pelham allows more direct aids with less pressure on the reins.

Benefits of the Pelham bit: • Can be ridden with one or two reins.• Pull and leverage effect can be applied as required

Special Benefits of the Cheeks:• The special features of a Stübben STEELtec Pelham are its short shanks• They enable a direct impact on the horse with short rein movement• A direct impact is very helpful in jumping, particularly in fast turns between the jumps• The flat hooks prevent the horse’s lips from being pinched.

Stübben STEELtec quality:• No rough edges that could hurt the horse's mouth• Long durability due to selected materials• A special processing technology ensures that bit holes and link pieces remain intact for longer
Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
The 2241 Easy Control Pelham is designed for experienced riders and should be used for targeted training sessions only. Its dual-effect nature means that while it may be gentle under normal contact, the leverage effect engages when the horse pushes forward on both reins. Use it to teach restraint and self-control, then return to a milder bit once the lesson is learned. Always ensure correct fit and soft, consistent hands.
