The 2289 Easy Control Liverpool Driving Bit double broken is a curb bit designed for driving disciplines. With its variable leverage through shank design and the soft-tasting Sweet Copper centre link, it delivers refined communication and enhanced control. The Liverpool style allows various rein and cheekpiece attachments to tailor the effect for the driver and horse in combination.

Description

2289 Liverpool Bit Easy Control Double Jointed

The Stübben SteelTEC Easy Control bits are activated by strong, bilateral pressure from the horse, turning them into a bar bit. With normal contact with the reins and as soon as the rider or the horse relaxes, the bit becomes flexible again and can be used like a regular snaffle bit. This allows for precise yet mouth-friendly aids when needed.

Thanks to the effect of the Easy Control bit, horses often learn to hold back on their own as soon as the bar effect kicks in. Therefore, Easy Control bits should be used for training purposes for short periods, with regular checks to see if the desired learning effect has been achieved.

The Liverpool Bit Easy Control is a classic driving bit that offers various rein attachment options, allowing for individual pressure distribution and different effects on the horse's poll and mouth. The double-jointed mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly over the tongue and bars.

Advantages at a Glance

Rein Attachment Options and Effect
When the horse applies strong pressure forward on both reins, the bit acts like a bar. As soon as the horse or driver relaxes (on one side), the bit acts like a double-jointed bit.

Various rein attachment options allow for adjusting the pressure of the bit on the mouth and poll as needed:

  1. Option: Attaching the bridle to the upper small ring and the rein to the large ring - mild leverage effect on the poll.
  2. Option: Attaching the bridle to the upper small ring and the rein to the first small lower ring - effect with mild leverage on the mouth and poll.
  3. Option: Attaching the bridle to the upper small ring and the rein to the second small lower ring - effect with greater leverage on the mouth and poll.
WARNING: Leverage bits should only be used by experienced riders/drivers.

Mouthpiece
Made of stainless steel
Stainless steel is robust, tasteless, and odorless

Which horses are particularly suited for this bit?

  • Horses that strongly push forward
  • Horses that resist by raising their heads

Note on Proper Use

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly and improperly, especially bits with leverage effects, so caution is advised. An incorrect size can also be painful for the horse. Please contact us if you have questions about size and fastening, or read more here about choosing the right size and about proper fitting in the horse’s mouth.

Please ensure that Easy Control bits are regularly switched out to check for the desired training effect.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
The 2289 Easy Control Liverpool bit is intended for trained drivers and driving horses familiar with rein and mouth aids. The multiple attachment options adjust the leverage; use with soft, consistent communication and monitor the horse's response closely. Because of the driving context and lever action, ensure the bit fits correctly and the ride is smooth and calm.
