The 2631 Egg Butt bit double broken Level 3 features fixed egg-butt style rings that lie approximately 1 cm closer to the corners of the mouth compared to loose rings, preventing lip-pinch and stabilising the contact. The double-jointed Level 3 mouthpiece distributes pressure more directly across the tongue and bars, offering clearer communication while maintaining a calm mouth feel. The sweet-tasting Sweet Copper centre link promotes chewing and acceptance in the horse’s mouth.

Size Guide

Measure your horse’s mouth width by placing a bit sizer, string, or dowel between the corners of the lips (at the position where the bit will sit), mark the ends, then measure the distance.

The bit width should be such that the rings rest just outside (or very slightly beyond) the lip corners—if the bit is too narrow, it will pinch; too wide, it will shift side to side.

For loose ring bits, allow a little “play” so the rings can rotate freely without pinching the lips.

When mounted in the bridle, the bit should sit such that there is 1–2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth (but this is not a perfect rule for all jointed bits)

The bit should lie on the bars (the toothless gap between incisors and molars) and not press into teeth or interfere with the palate.

Care Instructions

Washing
After each ride, rinse or wipe the bit to remove saliva, feed residues, or sweat. Use lukewarm water and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral detergent or saddle soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the metal surface and reduce the bit’s longevity.

Drying
Once cleaned, dry the bit thoroughly with a soft cloth. Allow it to air dry completely before storage. Do not expose the bit to direct sunlight, and never place it on or near heat sources such as heaters or radiators.

Storage
Store your bit in a dry, well-ventilated environment, protected from moisture and temperature fluctuations. For best results, keep bits individually or padded to prevent metal parts from rubbing or scratching each other. Avoid leaving the bit attached to the bridle for extended periods, especially in humid conditions.

Guidance

Any bit can cause pain if used roughly or improperly. The wrong size can also be painful for the horse.
This Egg Butt Level 3 is built for horses that need clearer aids, minimal lateral movement and stable contact. The fixed ring design gives less mobility, so the rider must use soft, precise, balanced hands and ensure the horse is ready for a more direct communication. Ideal for advanced training sessions where control and subtlety are both required.
